About Volition Community

Volition Community is a charity based at Manchester Cathedral. We are innovative in our approach to volunteering and employability. We bring Cathedrals, civic leaders, partners, and business together to open up job opportunities for local unemployed people who are Volition Community volunteers. Our aim is to “level the playing field” so that more unemployed people can achieve their goal of securing a good job.

Over a period of ten weeks, Volition Community volunteers complete a course in Employability Skills with The Manchester College, attend a supported job club, and complete three hours per week of volunteering. A volunteer opportunity available is assisting Volition Community’s Beekeeper to tend hives at Manchester Cathedral and Salford Cathedral. The hives must be properly tended by the Beekeeper and it is important that the successful candidate understands that the apiaries exist as an integral part of Volition Community.

This is an exciting opportunity for a Beekeeper with intermediate or advanced skills to develop in a socially valuable way, as part of the wider Volition team.

The successful candidate will require patience, flexibility and sensitivity as some of the volunteers supported by Volition Community face one or more barriers to employment.
